What was the main reason why people left Great Plains during Depression?

Dust Bowl

Due to several years of drought followed by intense farming, the topsoil of the Great Plains became very dry and was easily picked up by strong winds. This created conditions for terrible dust storms, which ruined farms, homes, and lives. This phenomenon was known as the "Dust Bowl." It's estimated that during this time, more than 500,000 people left the affected area.
