History of North America

How old can you be to start working?

Child labor laws vary from country to country. In the United States, the minimum age for employment is 14 years old for most non-agricultural jobs. However, there are some exceptions to this rule, such as for certain agricultural jobs, where the minimum age is 12 years old.

In addition, different states may have their own child labor laws that set higher minimum ages for employment. For example, in California, the minimum age for employment is 16 years old for most non-agricultural jobs.

It is important to note that child labor laws are in place to protect children from exploitation and to ensure that they have the opportunity to receive an education. As such, it is important for employers to be aware of and follow the child labor laws in their area.
