History of Chero Rebellion (1800-02 AD)
From around 1720 AD, the British were trying to capture the fort of Palamu. The British demanded the fort from the chair ruler of Palamu, Chhatrapati Rai. But Chhatrapati Rai refused to surrender the fort. This led to a war between the British and the Chera ruler and finally on February 20, 1771, this fort was captured by the British.
In 1783 AD, with the support of the British, Chudaman Rai became the ruler. Gradually, discontent against this increased and in 1800 AD against the Cheras took the form of open rebellion.
Under the leadership of Bhushan Singh, who was himself a Chero, the people of the princely state of Palamu raised the flag of rebellion. In 1802 AD, Bhushan Singh was caught and hanged. But even after this the rebellion continued.
