History of Africa

Why was the african country Liberia formed?

The Republic of Liberia was founded in 1947 by African-American colonists who sought to establish an independent nation where Black people could be free from discrimination and racism. These freed American slaves decided to migrate to Liberia because they were facing racial issues and discrimination in the US and wanted to establish a homeland for African-American people.

Liberia was the first African nation to declare independence from colonial rule and became a symbol of hope and inspiration for many African countries seeking independence from European colonization.
