Why were blacks in the civil war endangered more than whites were?

There is no evidence that blacks were endangered more than whites in the Civil War. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Blacks were not only at greater risk of being killed in combat, but they were also more likely to be captured and enslaved or sold into indentured servitude. Additionally, blacks were often the targets of violence from both Northern and Southern civilians, who saw them as a threat to their way of life.
