Historical story

Did Alexander the Great use fortune telling?

Alexander the Great was known to be a superstitious man and was said to have used various forms of divination, including dreams, entrails, and astrological readings, to make decisions. He often sought the advice of prophets and seers, such as the Oracle of Delphi, before embarking on military campaigns or making important decisions. One famous example is Alexander's consultation with the Oracle of Amun in the Egyptian city of Siwa, which was believed to be the shrine of the god Zeus-Amun. The Oracle's pronouncement that Alexander was the son of Zeus reinforced his divine legitimacy and bolstered the morale of his troops. Throughout his conquests, Alexander continued to rely on divination and religious practices, demonstrating the role of superstition and belief in shaping his decision-making process.
