What happened to King Philip?

Metacomet, also called King Philip, led a major Native American uprising known as King Philip's War (1675-1676) against the English colonists in New England. The war began when Metacomet and his Wampanoag allies attacked several English settlements in retaliation for the continued encroachment of English settlers onto Native American land. The conflict spread throughout the region, with the English eventually emerging victorious. Metacomet was killed during the war in August 1676, and his death effectively marked the end of organized resistance by the Wampanoag people against the English.
