Historical story

Did Columbus die rich or poor?

Columbus never became rich from his discoveries. Although he was given the titles Admiral of the Ocean Sea and Viceroy of the Indies, these were mostly honorary titles and did not bring significant financial rewards. In addition, Columbus faced many challenges and disputes throughout his life, including a lack of support from the Spanish crown and various legal battles. Columbus's final years were marked by financial difficulties, and he died in relative poverty in 1506 in Valladolid, Spain.
