Historical story

Why was a knock on the door considered to be scary during great purge?

A knock on the door was considered scary during the Great Purge because it often meant that the NKVD (the Soviet secret police) had come to arrest someone. People who were arrested by the NKVD were often taken away to prison or labor camps, where they were often tortured or killed. As a result, a knock on the door during the Great Purge was a sign of great danger.

The Soviet Union did not experience the Great Purge, which was a period of political repression and persecution in Nazi Germany.
