Tricking Polyphemus: When Odysseus and his men first encountered Polyphemus in his cave, Odysseus devised a plan to escape after the cyclops trapped them inside.
Getting Polyphemus Drunk: Odysseus offered Polyphemus wine, which the cyclops had never tasted before. Polyphemus became intoxicated and fell into a deep sleep.
Blinding Polyphemus: While Polyphemus was asleep, Odysseus heated a large piece of wood sharpened to a point and plunged it into the cyclops' only eye, blinding him.
Escaping the Cave: To escape the cave unnoticed, Odysseus and his men tied themselves to the underside of Polyphemus' sheep and waited for the morning when the cyclops would release the animals to graze.
Mocking Polyphemus: As they sailed away from the island, Odysseus taunted Polyphemus by revealing his real name. This angered Polyphemus further, and he hurled giant rocks at their ship but missed.
