Louis' childhood was marked by illness and neglect. He was frequently sick, and his mother, who was more interested in her own pleasures than in her children, often left him to the care of servants. As a result, Louis grew up to be a shy, withdrawn, and insecure young man.
Louis was also very intelligent, and he showed a great aptitude for learning. He was especially interested in history, geography, and mathematics. However, he was not given a very good education, and his tutors often focused more on teaching him etiquette than on giving him a solid academic foundation.
Despite the challenges of his childhood, Louis managed to become a well-rounded and successful king. He was a just and compassionate ruler, and he was popular with his subjects. He also oversaw a period of great prosperity and cultural achievement in France.
Louis died on May 10, 1774, at the age of 63. He was succeeded by his grandson, Louis XVI.
