Historical story

What is the First Red Scare?

The First Red Scare was a period of intense anti-communist sentiment and paranoia in the United States that lasted from the late 1910s to the mid-1950s. The main cause of the First Red Scare was the Russian Revolution of 1917, which led to the rise of communism in Russia. Americans were afraid that the Soviet Union would export its communist ideology to other countries, including the United States. The First Red Scare was characterized by government repression of suspected communists, including arrests, deportations, and blacklistings. It also led to the creation of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), which investigated alleged communist activity in Hollywood and other areas of American life. The First Red Scare ended with the death of Joseph Stalin in 1953 and the subsequent de-Stalinization of the Soviet Union.
