Historical story

What happened to the knights after Becket was killed?

After the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in 1170, the four knights involved—Reginald fitzUrse, Hugh de Morville, William de Tracy, and Richard le Breton—were excommunicated by Pope Alexander III. They later sought absolution from the pope and were required to undertake a penance of two years in the Holy Land. Upon their return, they were banned from England.
