Historical story

Why did this incident become known as the trail of tears?

The incident became known as the Trail of Tears because of the forced removal of Native Americans from their ancestral lands in the southeastern United States to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma) in the 1830s. This forced removal resulted in the death of thousands of Native Americans due to harsh conditions, exposure to diseases, and lack of adequate food and shelter during the journey. The term "Trail of Tears" was used to describe the suffering, hardship, and loss experienced by the Native American tribes during this forced migration.
