The bloodiest battle of the War of the Roses was the Battle of Towton, fought on 29 March 1461. The battle was between the forces of the House of York, led by Edward, Earl of March, and the forces of the House of Lancaster, led by King Henry VI. The battle was fought near Towton, in Yorkshire, England. The Yorkist army was larger than the Lancastrian army, and they had the advantage of better discipline and leadership. The battle lasted for several hours, and it was extremely bloody. The Yorkists eventually won the battle, and King Henry VI was forced to flee. The Battle of Towton is estimated to have resulted in the deaths of between 28,000 and 30,000 men, making it the deadliest battle in British history.
