How did the first punic war end?

The First Punic War ended in 241 BC with the Roman victory over the Carthaginians. The war, fought mainly at sea, witnessed battles such as the Battle of Ecnomus and the Siege of Lilybaeum. The conflict saw the rise of prominent figures like Hamilcar Barca, who later gained fame as the father of the great Hannibal. The war officially concluded when Carthage ceded Sicily to Rome under the terms of the Treaty of Lutatius. The Roman victory marked the beginning of Rome's dominance over much of the Mediterranean region and laid the foundation for future confrontations with Carthage, most notably the Second Punic War.
