It was the distant 1510.
The tree tradition then, it spread to Northern Europe in the 1500s and was certainly very much felt in countries such as Germany and England.
Here, during the holiday season, the custom of decorating any tree, not necessarily a fir tree, with fruit and flowers became increasingly popular.
In Italy and, in general, in Southern Europe, the Christmas tree only began to take hold in the 19th century, after the Congress of Vienna (1815), thanks to the English soldiers scattered here and there in the Old Continent.
