Portraits of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti
They were two absolute geniuses of our Renaissance, but it seems that between Michelangelo and Leonardo did not correct good blood ( see also https://www.pilloledistoria.it/12109/storia-moderna/michelangelo-lorenzo-il-magnifico).
According to what was stated by Giorgio Vasari in The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors and Architects in fact, the two artists disliked each other.
Precisely Vasari writes that "there was great disdain between Michelangelo Buonarroti and Leonardo" .
We do not know the reasons.
Normal rivalry between greats?
Maybe.
It is said that once Buonarroti, crossing the Ponte Vecchio with the author of the famous Gioconda, had addressed him with epithets anything but polite.
Leonardo, for his part, returned in 1504 by giving a negative opinion on the location of David in front of Palazzo Vecchio.
Fortunately, however, his opinion was not decisive and Michelangelo's splendid sculpture was placed in Piazza della Signoria.
