Amphorae around the Phoenician wreck found in Maltese waters
It was located 120 meters deep in the waters of the Maltese Archipelago, near the coast of Gozo, the wreck of a Phoenician ship dating back to 700 BC, which testifies perhaps the oldest shipwreck in the Mediterranean.
The boat, about 15 meters long, is in good condition, also because probably the sandy bottom has mitigated its impact on the ground, and retains the abundant load, consisting of at least 20 lava stone millstones and 50 amphorae and jugs. in ceramic used to transport wine.
The fact that the Phoenicians were the greatest and most expert navigators of the past explains the discovery of the considerable number of wrecks attributable to them so far.
