There are many mysteries in the world. For example, what happens when we die? Are aliens real? Or what's really going on in the Bermuda Triangle? Why do so many people miss? Although it is now show myth busters who set out to prove whether myths or real, people are still curious. Something that has always caught my interest was the fear people have of the Bermuda Triangle. Due to the many planes and ships that suddenly disappeared, there is an aura around it.
What is the Bermuda Triangle?
Now part of me thinks that the Bermuda Triangle is not as talked about as it used to be. For those who do not know, it is part of the Atlantic Ocean that triangulates from Miami, Florida Bermuda and San Juan, Puerto Rico. But in this triangle, there has been more than one strange thing. All of these things include something, or some that is missing. Do not make this triangle famous, but infamous.
People have many ideas about why humans and ships or planes disappear, like aliens. But it does not end there. The Bermuda Triangle is also theorized to be the lost city of Atlantis, which is another idea. Although Ocean Services provides other more scientific explanations for what the cause of these mysteries is. Either way, it would be a fun experience to go over some of the most famous stories from the Bermuda Triangle.
Over the years
People disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle have been going on for centuries. It began with Christopher Columbus and his journey into the New World. They claimed to see a fire that crashed into the sea. There can be many explanations for what the fire was. But when connected with other people, coincidences are hard to ignore.
The Bermuda Triangle did not gain its reputation until the mid-1900s. That was when there was an increase in missing ships, planes and people as well. Let's dive into some examples.
Missing aircraft
The first plane ever missed
By this I mean the first plane missing in the Bermuda Triangle. It was not a plane either, but a couple, they were part of a squadron. On the afternoon of December 5, 1945, the U.S. Navy had a 3-hour flight training from Florida, otherwise known as Flight 19. It was a flight that the captain had done before, but in the second hour something happened to the compass followed by other problems on the plane. . The other planes also reported similar problems.
They took off a little after 2 o'clock that day, and at 7 o'clock that evening a new flight, Mariner with 30 men, went out to search. Mariner followed Flight 13 and was never heard from again. There was a large search party for both flights and the search through the sea. No one was ever found. Although in 1991, planes were found in the sea that were confused with the squadron. This later turned out not to be the case. There are many explanations for what might have happened to these two flights. But because there are other reports that this is happening in this area, make it questionable and a mystery.
G-AHNP Star Tiger
Two years after Flight 19, the British "Star Tiger" plane disappeared without a trace. This is another piece that was able to formulate the legend, myth and mystery that is the Bermuda Triangle. The flight itself had some problems and even encountered a lay over due to expected weather.I can not help but think of the irony of avoiding and fixing problems, but still reach a mysterious fate.
There was a crew and passengers on board. Different from Flight 19. Star Tiger had good communication with Radio Towers throughout the flight. In the messages from the crew of Star Tiger, nothing seemed strange. The crew did not report anything wrong, and their voice seemed normal. The pilot requested a warehouse which was refused. The acclaimed messages received from the radio tower after the second time they received it, and that was the last it was heard from. Messages from Star Tiger's radio kept coming in to try to contact it, but they all failed.
The weather forecast that conditions were fine for flying. The pilot had experience flying, and there were no problems with the aircraft. It had passed inspection, there is no reasonable explanation for why it suddenly disappeared. But Star Tiger went dark on January 30, 1948 and the 31 people who were on it, passengers and crew were all mysteriously missed.
Mitsubishi MU-2B-40
The last reported disappearance in the Bermuda Triangle was as soon as in 2017. So this was just not a previous problem, but people are quite recently victims of this "curse" in the Bermuda Triangle. In May 2017, planes flew from Puerto Rico to Florida where they were to cross the Bermuda Triangle. It was a small plane carrying only four passengers, including a New York City CEO, her two children and her boyfriend flew the plane. Three hours into the plane, the contact was lost, like others, three hours on the plane. They were also 30 minutes from the landing.

The weather that day seemed to be less than favorable. It was thunderstorms that are not ideal for flying and can explain what happened to the plane. Unlike the other examples before, this one has an end. A few days after disappearing pieces of a plane were found. Although their bodies are still missing along with the plane, the pieces that emerged from the wreck were.
Missing ship
USS Cyclops
Not only do things mysteriously disappear over the Bermuda Triangle, but they also disappear in it. There have been several ships that have disappeared. The USS Cyclops was a naval ship, the largest naval ship 550 feet long. In March 1918, troops and cargo on board traveled to Barbados and ended up in Baltimore.
It was a nine-day trip, until it was no longer a nine-day trip. The last message from the ship was "Weather Fair, All Well". If so, what happened then? There was no SOS signal and no trace has been left. Even over a century later, there is still not much about what happened. 309 people disappeared from this journey. Given that this was early in the beginning of the Bermuda Triangle myth, the eerie disappearance helped to create the story further. Right now, instead of planes disappearing, even very large ships can disappear without a trace.
USS Proteus and USS Nereus
While the sea scares me and I am very scared of the next cruise that my parents book. I do not know much about how this works, but USS Proteus and USS Nereus are the sister ships of USS Cyclops. It seems strange that it met the same fate as Cyclops. The USS Proteus disappeared on November 23, 1941 and not long after, the USS Nereus disappeared on December 10. Although this was a time of unrest in the world with World War II, no one took credit for sinking these ships.
People believe that what happened to both Proteus and Nereus was what they suffered from densification. Which is the process of turning something into a liquid. This will explain why the ships are still missing today, and there is no chance of finding them. The flood season in the Virgin Islands is also around November. Another reasonable explanation for what could have happened. They both disappeared at the time of the flood season, so they were more likely to sink. But it is very difficult to ignore all the coincidences that are constantly happening in the Bermuda Triangle.
SS El Faro
It seems that missing ships do not face the same fate as the missing planes. In 2015, the ship El Faro, which traveled between Florida and San Juan, disappeared. There is now a famous story about a ship sentenced to death that fell to Hurricane Joaquin. When it first left Florida, Joaquin was still a tropical storm, but as the storm intensified, the captain did not change course and relied on outdated information. Although he was told three separate times that he was heading straight into the storm.
El Faro is no longer missing unlike others. Since it was no longer lacking, people could now gain a better understanding of what happened before it ended. There is a picture of the ship found under water seen to the right.
Not only is the mystery of what happened to the ship solved, but it is a recording of the last minute. The captain, Micheal Davidson, sounds calm when he asks for help and reports that the ship retains water. The operator also did not believe that the ship was close to sinking. Although the transcripts of the recordings on board show that the crew tried to warn the captain to change course, Davidson did not listen. They also show that the crew left the ship and people said "help me". The recorder turns off after a few minutes of shouting. The voice recordings found on the ship after sinking freeze me to the bone.
Pop culture examines missing planes and ships
There are many cases of things missing in the Bermuda Triangle that have become difficult for people to ignore. People have come up with their own theories for what is happening. Children's shows, reddit threads and other shows have also researched it.
Buzzfeed unresolved
Buzzfeed has created many series for different things. The unresolved series has three spin offs, "Supernatural", "True Crime" and "Sports Conspiracies". The hosts, Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara, investigate various incidents and then discuss theories about what happened. They have opposing personalities that make it an entertaining dynamic.
In their Bermuda Triangle episode, they discuss some of the planes and ships mentioned above and even a few others. Then they explain theories. The most ridiculous theory is that the people who have disappeared are now part of the lost city of Atlantis. Some of them actually include science. For example, the reason for the disappearance is that the Bermuda Triangle is a hotspot for storms. You can watch the episode here ..
What exactly is the Bermuda Triangle?
There is no argument, the Bermuda Triangle has strange stories where people have disappeared. Many theories have been created on many blogs, reddit threads and even just personal opinions. But what is the truth? The truth is hard to find. Maybe it was really just storms, but if that was the case, why are there no more prints from the captains reporting storms.
In some cases, I think some ships and planes fell victim to storms, such as El Faro. Even though at the moment on flight 19, it leaves me speechless. It's really shocking, there was no panic or distress in the pilots' voice. Confusion and disorientation were reported. In the buzzfeed episode, they mention how it could have been a malfunctioning compass that led to their fall. But rest assured, we may never know the answer. It's nice to think that there might be a black hole where people are taken to live in the lost city of Atlantis. But the realist in me knows better.
I hope those who have lost people have found a bit in knowing that people are interested in their stories. All I know is that I'm not going to cruise from Florida to Bermuda anytime soon. I think it's better safe than sorry.
