Today, the fourth volume of the "Reborn Kingdom" series has its premiere, a real treat for all fans of the author and not only. Elżbieta Cherezińska proves once again that the history of Poland is fascinating. Great politics is thus intertwined with court intrigues, knightly tournaments and games in ... alcove.
The latest novel by Elżbieta Cherezińska takes place at a time when Władysław Łokietek at the age of sixty won the coveted crown. This symbolically ended the period of the district breakdown in Poland, but did not solve the numerous problems that the Polish ruler will have to deal with. Of course, the most dangerous is John of Luxembourg - the king of Bohemia, who does not intend to give up the Polish throne. Things are not better with the Teutonic Knights. Therefore, Łokietek strengthens the alliance with Hungary - fifteen-year-old Elżbieta Łokietkówna (no longer Elżunia!) Marries Karol Robert and slowly begins to build her position on the international arena.
The legendary battle of Płowce is approaching!
Today is the premiere of "The War Crown" - the fourth volume of the "Reborn Kingdom" series by Elżbieta Cherezińska.
For power with a silver spoon
Particularly noteworthy in the novel are well-drawn female characters, which mainstream history forgets a bit.
The first is, of course, Jadwiga, wife of Władysław Łokietek. Elżbieta Cherezińska discreetly recalls her high position in a few moments:
Jadwiga was walking dignified and light. Instinctively he straightened. I must be careful, he thought, not to look like a grandfather with such a wife.
We know that Łokietek eludes unambiguous judgments - he made many mistakes and often acted rashly. So a smile is aroused by the thoughts of Jadwiga, who wonders in the pages of the novel:
And if Elżbieta got into Władek? This one, too, for many years attacked the enemy, without waiting for reinforcements, chose the wrong enemy, which was prompted by the strategy, as if the Kujaw family cry was not "Against the wind!", But "Somehow it will be".
Jadwiga participated in diplomatic discussions and was eager to speak up. We also know that Łokietek did not mind her having a royal seal. The king took her opinion into account - well! more than once he gave the impression of a henpecker :
Władek was getting ready for the most difficult battle. (…) He knew he couldn't look at her. That he would not bear the disappointment in her gaze. (…) Has become. He said it. He preferred to look at the despair of the prince kneeling in front of him than to turn around and see the disappointment in his wife's eyes.
Jadwiga understood the world around her. She wisely wanted to raise children. When Elizabeth gave birth to her son, she worried about her health and safety, but at the same time thought:
And the second, even more important, thing to convey to her is that a woman must reach for power invisibly, as if drawing from a bucket with a tiny silver spoon. Does Elżunia know this? Does he understand that a woman is more likely to forgive sterility than to openly seize governments?
And being with Elżbieta Łokietkówna - I am very happy, because Cherezińska announced that she will devote a separate novel to this extraordinary figure, who eventually became one of the most influential women of the Middle Ages!
Today is the premiere of "The War Crown" - the fourth volume of the "Reborn Kingdom" series by Elżbieta Cherezińska.
The second amazing female character is, of course, Rikissa - Ryksa, daughter of Przemysł II, over whom many men are crazy. Its extraordinary beauty is even legendary today. Cherezińska paid her a lot of attention again. In the novel, we can trace its adventures and the great feeling that she had with Henryk from Lipa. The male figures are also wonderfully outlined. John of Luxembourg - a still young king who grows into an extremely skillful diplomat ę, but also the aforementioned Henryk of Lipa, the richest and most influential man in the Czech Republic. In the pages of the novel, Rikiss deftly refers to this situation:
This is the Kingdom of Bohemia! A double queen, two princes, a noble commander, and orders are given by the marshal, Henry of Lipa!
The Crown of War is an incredibly skilfully written novel. From each side, there is a great passion and an unusual writing technique. Elżbieta Cherezińska infected all of Poland with her love for the Piasts. We are waiting impatiently for the culmination of Łokietek's story. And for a novel about Elizabeth!
