The Germans, under the leadership of the Nazi party, murdered millions of human beings during their 12-year rule. In 1933 the massacres of their political opponents began and during the following years they continued to kill throughout the country. In 1939, however, a qualitative leap was made. That year began the systematic murders by order of the State and the first to be exterminated were the Germans themselves.
The Nazis considered that the superior Aryan race was contaminated and therefore its purification was necessary. To this end, what was known as "Operation T4" or Euthanasia Operation was launched in 1939, since its headquarters were at number 4 Tiergarten Street. Under this operation, it was intended to eliminate all Germans living in mental hospitals in Germany and Austria. The goal was to eliminate people with physical or psychological deficiencies.
Through massive lethal injections and with the first gas chambers, a total of some 200,000 people were eliminated.
