With a total length of almost 110 meters and around 2,800 square meters of sail area, the "Mir" is one of the largest sailing ships in the world. The training ship, launched in 1987, is also one of the world's fastest tall ships.
The "Mir" is the third of six modern sailing ships built by the Lenin Shipyard in Gdańsk in the 1980s. Sister ships are the full-rigged ships "Nadeschda", the "Pallada", the "Khersones", the "Druschba" and the slightly smaller "Dar Młodzieży", the first ship in the series. In 1987 the "Mir" - in German peace - was launched. The owner is the traditional state Admiral Makarov Academy, the college for ship engineers in Saint Petersburg, for which the sail training ship was commissioned by the Soviet Ministry for Merchant Navy and Fisheries.
Seaman's virtues as a compulsory student program

The permanent crew of the "Mir" consists of around 55 people. In addition, the ship can accommodate around 140 cadets or other passengers. To finance ongoing operations and expensive repair and maintenance work, paying fellow sailors from other countries are now allowed to come on board as trainees. The "Mir" also takes paying sailing enthusiasts on day trips.

The "Mir" is a welcome guest at harbor festivals, where she promotes international understanding as Russia's maritime ambassador. In addition, the full-rigged ship regularly takes part in international windjammer regattas. To date, it has won numerous competitions.
