What do historians study?

Historians study the past using a variety of sources, including written documents, archaeological evidence, and oral histories. They seek to understand how past events have shaped the present, and how people have lived and interacted with each other over time. Some of the specific things that historians study include:

* Political history: The history of governments, wars, and diplomacy.

* Economic history: The history of economic systems, trade, and commerce.

* Social history: The history of everyday life, including the lives of ordinary people, women, and minorities.

* Cultural history: The history of ideas, beliefs, and values.

* Intellectual history: The history of philosophy, science, and literature.

* Military history: The history of warfare, including the development of weapons and strategies.

* Religious history: The history of religious beliefs and practices.

* Environmental history: The history of the environment and how it has been shaped by human activity.

Historians use their research to write books, articles, and other scholarly works. They also teach at universities and colleges, and work in museums, archives, and other cultural institutions.
