Who was Leif Erikson?

Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer who is credited with being the first European to set foot on the North American continent. He was born around 970 AD in Iceland, the son of Erik the Red, who had established the first Norse settlement in Greenland in 985 AD.

In the year 1000 AD, Leif Erikson set out from Greenland with a crew of 35 men in search of new land. They sailed westward for many days until they reached a landmass that was covered in forests. Leif and his men landed and explored the area, which they called "Vinland." They built a camp and spent the winter there before returning to Greenland.

Leif Erikson's discovery of Vinland is significant because it represents the first known European contact with North America. It also opened up the possibility of further exploration and settlement of the continent by the Norse people.
