The "Santiago" was the flagship of Francisco Pizarro's expedition to Peru. It was a 100-ton carrack, one of the largest ships in the Spanish fleet. The "Santiago" was commanded by Juan de la Cosa, a renowned navigator who had sailed with Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas.
San Pedro
The "San Pedro" was another carrack that was part of Pizarro's expedition. It was slightly smaller than the "Santiago," at 80 tons. The "San Pedro" was commanded by Diego de Almagro, Pizarro's second-in-command.
La Pinta
The smallest of the three ships in Pizarro's expedition was "La Pinta." It was a 60-ton caravel, a type of ship that was often used for exploration. The "La Pinta" was commanded by Bartolomeo Ruiz de Estrada, a pilot who had sailed with Vasco Núñez de Balboa on his expedition to the Pacific Ocean.
