Materials:
- Sturdy fabric such as canvas or wool
- Paperboard
- Scissors
- Fabric glue or sewing machine

Instructions:
Step 1: Create the Pattern:
1. Cut a piece of paperboard into an 8-inch by 11-inch rectangle.
2. Round off the top corners of the rectangle to create the outline of the Davy hat.
Step 2: Cut the Fabric:
1. Pin the paperboard pattern onto the fabric, making sure to add an extra half-inch for seam allowances around the edges.
2. Cut the fabric along the pattern line. You will need two pieces of fabric, one for the top of the hat and one for the brim.
Step 3: Sew the Hat Top:
1. Fold the top piece of fabric in half, right sides together, and sew along the bottom edge using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
2. Turn the fabric right side out and press flat.
Step 4: Sew the Brim:
1. Fold the brim piece of fabric in half, right sides together, and sew along the top edge using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
2. Turn the fabric right side out and press flat.
Step 5: Attach the Brim:
1. Pin the brim to the hat top, right sides together.
2. Sew the brim to the hat top, going through all the layers of fabric.
Step 6: Add the Crown:
1. Cut a circle from the remaining fabric just slightly smaller than the diameter of the hat top.
2. Pinch the center of the circle and use fabric glue or a needle and thread to secure it to the center of the hat top.
Step 7: Add Embellishments (Optional):
1. You can add embellishments such as buttons, badges, or trim to the hat. Be creative and personalize the hat to your own style!
