Was Rousseau part of the third estate?

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was not part of the third estate. He was born into a family of watchmakers in Geneva, Switzerland, and became a philosopher, writer, and composer. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Enlightenment, and his ideas had a profound impact on the French Revolution.

The third estate was the social class in France that included the common people, such as peasants, artisans, and merchants. They were the largest social class, but they had little political power. The first and second estates were the clergy and the nobility, respectively, and they had much more power and privilege than the third estate.
