She is the daughter of the Duke of Savoy, Philippe dit sans Terre, and Marguerite de Bourbon. In 1490 she married Charles de Valois, Count of Angoulême, with whom she had two children:Marguerite d'Angoulême and François I. After her widowhood, she devoted herself to their education. She was twice regent of France during her son's Italian campaigns:in 1515 and again in 1525-1526, after the king's capture at the Battle of Pavia. She organized the continuity of the state and a counter-offensive against Charles V. She would also be no stranger to the betrayal of the Constable Charles de Bourbon (from whom she recovered most of the land).
Daughter of Caribert, count of Laon, she married Pépin le Bref and thus became queen of the Franks. She is the mother of Charlemagne and Carloman. At first just Pepins concubine, ambitious, Berthe managed to get him to marry him in 749.
