Where did the surname Finley originate?

Finley or Finlay is a surname of Scottish and Irish origin. It is an Anglicization of the Gaelic Mac Fhionghlaigh meaning "son of the fair-haired warrior" (fionn + laoch). Variants of the name found in Ireland include Finlayson, Finley and Finnegan, while in the Scottish Highlands the forms MacFinlay, Fingland, Fingal and Finlayson are found. The Scottish Clan Finley, descended from the Royal House of Dalriada, originated in County Tyrone, Ireland. The clan migrated to Scotland in the thirteenth century. The surname Findlay is also found in England and Wales, where it is sometimes used as a first name.
