How do you build a model of the Mayflower?

Materials:

- 1/4-inch balsa wood

- 1/8-inch balsa wood

- 1/16-inch balsa wood

- 1/32-inch balsa wood

- 1/64-inch balsa wood

- 1/4-inch dowel

- 1/8-inch dowel

- 1/16-inch dowel

- 1/32-inch dowel

- 1/64-inch dowel

- 1/4-inch plywood

- 1/8-inch plywood

- 1/16-inch plywood

- 1/32-inch plywood

- 1/64-inch plywood

- 2-inch nails

- 1-inch nails

- 1/2-inch nails

- 1/4-inch nails

- 1/8-inch nails

- 1/16-inch nails

- 1/32-inch nails

- 1/64-inch nails

- Glue

- Sandpaper

- Paint

- Brush

Instructions:

1. Cut the balsa wood into the following pieces:

* Hull:

* 2 pieces 1/4-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 18 inches

* 2 pieces 1/8-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 18 inches

* 2 pieces 1/16-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 18 inches

* 2 pieces 1/32-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 18 inches

* 2 pieces 1/64-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 18 inches

* Deck:

* 1 piece 1/4-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 12 inches

* 1 piece 1/8-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 12 inches

* 1 piece 1/16-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 12 inches

* 1 piece 1/32-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 12 inches

* 1 piece 1/64-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 12 inches

* Sides:

* 2 pieces 1/4-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 6 inches

* 2 pieces 1/8-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 6 inches

* 2 pieces 1/16-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 6 inches

* 2 pieces 1/32-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 6 inches

* 2 pieces 1/64-inch balsa wood, 12 inches by 6 inches

* Masts:

* 1 piece 1/4-inch dowel, 12 inches long

* 1 piece 1/8-inch dowel, 12 inches long

* 1 piece 1/16-inch dowel, 12 inches long

* 1 piece 1/32-inch dowel, 12 inches long

* 1 piece 1/64-inch dowel, 12 inches long

* Sails:

* 2 pieces 1/64-inch balsa wood, 6 inches by 6 inches

2. Glue the hull pieces together, starting with the 1/4-inch balsa wood. Glue the 1/8-inch balsa wood to the 1/4-inch balsa wood, and so on. Sand the hull until it is smooth.

3. Glue the deck pieces together, starting with the 1/4-inch balsa wood. Glue the 1/8-inch balsa wood to the 1/4-inch balsa wood, and so on. Sand the deck until it is smooth.

4. Glue the sides to the hull. Glue the 1/4-inch balsa wood to the 1/4-inch balsa wood, and so on. Sand the sides until they are smooth.

5. Glue the masts to the deck. Glue the 1/4-inch dowel to the 1/4-inch balsa wood, and so on. Sand the masts until they are smooth.

6. Glue the sails to the masts. Glue the 1/64-inch balsa wood to the 1/64-inch dowel, and so on. Sand the sails until they are smooth.

7. Paint the model of the Mayflower. You can paint it any color you like, but the traditional colors are black and white.
