Are there upper and lower phalanges?

No, there are not upper and lower phalanges. Phalanges are the small bones that make up the fingers and toes. There are three phalanges in each finger or toe, called the proximal phalanx, the middle phalanx, and the distal phalanx. The proximal phalanx is the one closest to the palm or sole of the foot, and the distal phalanx is the one furthest away.
