The Palarq Foundation, a private, non-profit entity charity that supports the archeology and human paleontology missions of Spanish researchers, has teamed up with Dr. Eudald Carbonell, co-director of Atapuerca and vice president of Fundación Atapuerca, to bring human paleontology closer to all audiences. Through their website, they open a space to ask any question about human evolution and thus bring this discipline closer to all those who, without being specialists in the field, want to know a little better about this exciting topic.
The series “Capsules of evolution” will answer in video format the questions most requested by users. The capsules will be available on the Fundación Palarq website, totally free and open. Additional educational material for all those curious about our evolution.
Because, although there are still many unanswered questions about our evolution, many others have been resolved thanks to the great scientists who work in the field of anthropopaleontology. In Spain, one of those scientists is precisely Carbonell, vice president of the Atapuerca Foundation, founder of the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES) and Prince of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research in 1997 together with doctors Juan Luis Arsuaga and José Maria Bermudez de Castro.
Everything you wanted to know about human evolution
Under the name "Everything you wanted to know about human evolution", the Palarq Foundation and Dr. Eudald Carbonell campaign aims to resolve the doubts and challenges posed by our evolution, as well as disseminating this discipline that is so important for the knowledge of the past and the future.
The first "Evolutionary Capsules" that are now available on the Palarq Foundation website (where you can also find the form to send new questions to the researcher), deal with topics ranging from a brief explanation of what paleontology is to more complex questions such as who we are and where we are going as a species, when intelligence emerges in the human being or if globalization is positive or negative . The videos also answer Dr. Carbonell's more personal questions, such as what prompted him to become a paleontologist or what his references are.
Fundación Palarq also has the mission of bringing society a better understanding of archeology and human paleontology. Through their website and social networks, they collect daily the most relevant news in the sector at a national and international level, and initiate different dissemination initiatives such as masterclasses in both disciplines.
During confinement and the state of alarm caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, this initiative put the most important researchers of the projects it supports in contact with the general public, through the daily publication of a masterclass series in video format with which to bring specialized and non-specialized viewers closer to these front-line investigations in our country.
Below we invite you to enjoy the first «capsules of evolution» of Dr. Eudald Carbonell, and to send him your questions through the Palarq Foundation website.
