Abae , ancient city in the northeast corner of Phocis, Greece . The city was famous for its Oracle from Apollo , one of the Lydian king Croesus consulted . Although the Persians 480 v . Ch. Looted and burned the temple , the oracle continued to be consulted - e.g. B from the Thebans before the Battle of Leuctra (371 v . Ch. ). The temple built during the Holy War (355–346 v. ) Reburned , was partially adopted by the Roman Emperor Hadrian restored . The ruins of the city walls and acropolis remain on the city grounds.
