A detailed map of the history of civilization, showing the history of mankind over the last 5,000 years. years. See how national borders and civilizations have changed over the centuries.

This highly detailed animated map of the history of civilization begins in 3500 B.C. with the arrival of the Sumerian civilization in southern Mesopotamia. The map takes us through all eras, all the way to the present day.

How detailed and accurate the map is, the proof of this is the fact that the border changes in Ukraine are already taken into account. Crimea has already been marked as Russian, and the Donetsk and Lugansk regions are cut off by a separate line.

For us, the inhabitants of Poland and Europe, of course, the most interesting changes are the border changes taking place within our country and continent. It seems to me that they were drawn up quite carefully. For example, during the division into districts, the territory of the Piast state is divided into individual fragments. Large military offensives that temporarily changed the course of borders are also included, such as the Mongol invasions or the expeditions of Alexander the Great.

Since we are constantly in the European cultural circle, thinking about antiquity, we have Greece, the Empire of Alexander the Great or the Roman Empire in front of our eyes. This means that, as Europeans, we often ignore the parallel existence of other equally old civilizations that existed in East Asia and India. As the animation was probably done in China, these areas were also included in the animation. It is worth taking a closer look at them and broadening your historical horizons. 🙂

I also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the historical map on geacron.com. Using the interactive map and giving the exact year, we can see the then national borders.
