Eude of Paris

t

(Born around 860 - La Fère, 898.) Count of Paris, then King of France. Eldest son of Robert the Strong, too young to succeed him when the latter was killed at Brissarthe in 866, Eudes had to wait until 886 to take possession of his territories.
Count of Paris, he also possesses most of the regions between the Seine and the Loire, and Charles the Fat recognizes him as dux Francorum.
Courageous and energetic, Eudes manages to defend Paris against the attacks of the Normans in 885- 886. Following this success, the great vassals meeting in assembly at Compiègne in 888 chose him to succeed Louis le Bègue and offered him the crown, to the detriment of the young Charles le Simple. Eudes de Paris then continued the fight against the Normans, defeated them at Montfaucon-en-Argonne, but also suffered several setbacks. Arnoul the Bastard and Foulques, archbishop of Reims, push against him the young Charles the Simple, crowned by Foulques in 893. After several years of struggle, Eudes agrees to share his territories with his rival and, in 897, abandons him the countries located between Rhine and Seine.
