Cuthbert Collingwood

Cuthbert Collingwood (26 September 1750 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne – 7 March 1810), 1st Baron Collingwood, was an Admiral in the Royal Navy.

He took part in the blockades of Toulon and Brest and in the battle of Cape Saint-Vincent, was named vice-admiral in 1804, locked up Admiral Villeneuve in the port of Cadiz, contributed powerfully in 1805 to the victory of Trafalgar and replaced Nelson killed in battle. In 1809 he occupied the Ionian Islands. As a reward for his services, he was made a peer of England, with a pension of 2000 pounds sterling.
