"Kastriotis fought for Stavros and not for Albania..."

Paskal Milo, Albanian historian, politician and leader of the Social Democratic Party of Albania, in a televised debate about the greatest Albanian personality, Georgios Kastriotis Skenderbey, stated that "we must come down (from the clouds) to the earth" to see reality. With an unusual speech, Milo said that Kastriotis' mother was a Slav, while the national hero of the Albanians was born Orthodox.

Milo went even further, causing resentment, by adding that the names of the children of Ioannis (Gion) Kastriotis were of Slavic origin. "If we want to analyze Skanderbeg, we should say some things that historians have said over time, for centuries," said Milo characteristically. In addition, the Albanian politician cited a thesis according to which Georgios Kastriotis Skenderbeis fought for the protection of Christianity and not for the Albanians!

Again, it is good that Pascal Milo did not mention the Greek origin of Georgios Kastriotis and was content with that of his mother. A Muslim country like Albania finds it difficult to accept that a Christian who slaughtered Muslims cannot be their national hero, let alone that their hero was Greek.

The medieval historical writer "Silvius Aeneas", the later Pope of Rome Pius II (1405 – 1464), who was a contemporary of Kastriotis and had the opportunity to collect rare information, confirms that the Kastriotis were Greeks, Macedonians and descended from the region of Imathia. His grandfather Konstantinos Kastriotis, who died in 1390, is said to have been lord of Veria and Kastoria. In fact, according to one version, the surname Kastriotis
