Aztec Government - History of the Aztec Government

The governmental system of the Aztecs was monarchical, where the Emperor's Council elected his successor, chosen among the members of the ruling lineage, and called the Royal House.
The political and spiritual heart of the Aztecs was the city of Tenochtítlan on the island of Tlatelolco (Place of the Spiny Cactus), capital of the Aztec Empire.
It was the Emperor's Council, which elected the Emperor's successor, who was chosen from among the ruling lineage, the so-called Royal House.
The Emperor's power was hereditary, and considered of divine origin and he ruled aided by the "Grand Council", his main duties were to protect the People and honor the Gods.
The Aztecs had little freedom of action and little voice in government due to the form of government being the Autocracy.
