An 18th century lady. Some French ladies, after July 14, 1789, had jewels made with fragments of the Bastille
We consider the storming of the Bastille , dating back to 14 July 1789 , the episode that officially marked the beginning of the French Revolution, an epochal and complex event that will change a large part of the society before it.
The contemporaries, however, some of them at least, were not aware of it, or in any case they did not immediately have it.
Particularly striking, among other things, is the light behavior of some ladies of the time, who underestimating the situation and not realizing its real significance, continued undeterred to worry only about the outward appearance and fashion.
Thus it was that some fragments of the Bastille were transformed into rings and earrings .
Such jewels they were called “ a la Constitution ".
