Ancient Greece:Sophocles "Towed" and Robbed by a Young Man

Sophocles

Being great artists does not protect against the inconveniences of life and does not guarantee any protection against the cunning of the moment.

He knew something Sophocles, author of some of the most memorable tragedies of all time, who fell like a "chicken" into the trap set by a young Greek.

In a society that considered that between men the ideal form of love and which, therefore, encouraged homosexuality, it was not uncommon for boys without means to take advantage of youth and attractiveness to "pick up" rich and perhaps a little inexperienced adults.

Sophocles was not supposed to be naïve, but the weakness of the flesh cost him a not very funny joke.

One day, while walking down the street, the great playwright was approached by a teenager in search of easy earnings, who finally convinced him to retire with him in a rather isolated alley; soon after the fleeting encounter Sophocles realized that he had been robbed of his sumptuous and very expensive cloak, in place of which the young man had left him his, poor and tattered.

Quite frequent scene in the streets of the cities of Ancient Greece. .
