Historical story

Sergey Radchenko's response to Kuchumba about Paparachenko and a digital massacre

Once again, the general secretary of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas, was at the center of social media commentators.

In particular, the general secretary of the KKE, during his speech during the debate on the motion of no confidence, referred to the recent publication of the historian Sergey Radchenko, who shared on the Internet declassified documents of the USSR, where the support provided by the Soviets to the KKE and the DSE during the civil war.

"And well, what's his name, the foreign historian, the historian. I forget him, papa, papa, papara... Paparachenko? What's his name... something like that... Paparachenko. But well he. the domestic professional journalists of Hestia, the Republic , other sites? Didn't they know? Didn't they ask? Now it's my fault to say:Where did you find these fountains", said Mr. Koutsoubas, among other things.

"I'm not referring to the well-known fascist leaflets that are circulating, but to the supposedly reputable-reputable urban newspapers. So much has been written about these terrible documents by the "Radicalist". While they are also in the six-volume history essay of the Central Committee of the KKE. We recommend that they buy it from Modern Era, after reading the article by "Rizospastis" in the minutes so that you, gentlemen, can read it as well", Dimitris Koutsoubas concluded in his reference during his speech in the Parliament.

The history professor expressed his dismay in a series of tweets. In particular, he wrote that at first he laughed at the pun of the General Secretary of the KKE, but he was annoyed when he saw the hashtag "trending", thinking that it was all orchestrated.

The historian stated that he often uses documents in his posts on Twitter, while he notes that the fact that he published documents that examine the relations of the KKE with the USSR during the civil war, has clearly to do with his historical research and not with his policies beliefs. "My research is normal. What is abnormal is for the leader of a Greek political party to attack a historian ad hominem, using derogatory terms. It is indecent, if not shameful. I would suggest that Mr. Koutsoubas, who seems to care so deeply about the archival documents, to read more of them," he adds in his posts.

"By reading more, he will form a more detailed understanding of history, which is perhaps less politicized but more in line with the facts," reports Sergey Radchenko, and concludes by saying, "don't attack historians. We are here for the good of all."

Under these posts, as one can understand, a digital "massacre" followed, with users attacking each other with arguments in favor of the KKE or with anti-communist speech, while there was no shortage of far-right "interventions". Sergey Radchenko, however, chose not to position himself by responding to the comments below his announcement.

The hashtag #Paparachenko remained trending on Monday as well, the day after D. Koutsoumba's statement, with the majority of users agreeing more or less with what the General Secretary of the KKE said, that is, the publication of the documents in question does not constitute and some shocking revelation. Let's not forget that D. Koutsoumbas, in his speech in the Parliament, mostly tried with his speech to formalize the instrumentalization of these documents by the far-right space, and by columnists in the media.

It is noted here that according to the disputed documents, the Soviet Union supplied the men of the Democratic Army with weapons, which were from the stock of the Nazis and not of Soviet origin so that it cannot be proven that it provided support to the KKE. At the same time, it appears that there was financial support in the amount of 100,000 dollars to the KKE, an amount which, as the KKE itself answers, was minimal in front of the support of the Western powers to the rival awe of the time. Among the declassified documents is the letter from Nikos Zachariadis and Markos Vafiadis to the K.K. of the USSR in 1948, after communist Albania refused to continue supporting the DSE struggle.

The documents in question made the rounds on the internet with Rizospastis responding by commenting "coals the treasure", noting that these are already known historical elements of the Greek civil war.

"We don't know what Sergey Radchenko has to do with Greek history in the first place. It may be shocking new information for him, but here in Greece the reports presented are not only known, but are included in their essence in reports of the "Essay History of the KKE" in the relevant volume and on the corresponding pages (....) It would be interesting if the various falsifiers of history would tell us how they justify the fact that the USSR had so much armament "spoiled" by the Nazis. Themselves - the rest 350 days of the year - they attempt in every possible and improbable way to erase the catalytic contribution of the USSR to the victory over Nazi Germany".

In the most detailed publication entitled "Shut up the apocalypse!", it is mentioned, among other things:

"The DSE did not receive help only from the USSR. Solidarity committees were formed in various capitalist countries, with the aim of multifacetedly helping the imprisoned and exiled fighters, to spread the truth about the struggle in Greece, but also to strengthen as they could. For example, in France various personalities such as Paul Eliard, Henri Bassis and others were active.

Of course, the DSE was supported more by the countries where the working class and its social allies in the conditions of the exit from the Second World War were starting the socialist construction (Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, later GDR).

The aid received by the DSE from the USSR and the countries of socialist construction fell far short of the rivers of supplies sent by the capitalist states to consolidate the local power of the exploiters, through the Truman Doctrine, but also the Marshall Plan, which in Greece was overwhelmingly allocated for war purposes.

The help DSE received was much less than what he needed and asked for. Nikos Zachariadis mentioned characteristically in his letter to the KKSE at the end of 1948:

"At Grammos, the MFS (Monarcho-Fascist Army) fired 500,000 missiles, while we only fired 3,000. A change in this situation is urgently needed. And we can only achieve this with your help. Today we have artillery of the most various and oldest types, all 29 tubes basically mortars without shells or with shells that do not work but we use them and thus we have damage to people and material from premature explosions, break-ins, etc. We need today 100 cannons with all their fittings and 5,000 hex shells for each. (...) These are our artillery needs".

The above letter also reveals the following:The Soviet aid was low-powered weapons (atomic rifles, mortars, Panzer Faust) and did not cover his needs for heavy armament, while the DSE also lacked ammunition. This was also due to the fact that the USSR believed that support for the DSE could be a reason for an attack against it, as we said. For the same reason, the leadership of the Party of Labor of Albania decided to close the borders to the DSE.

However, these have been known for a long time.

What is not known is when the various apologists of capitalist power and "judges" of the KKE are telling the truth:When they claim that the Greek communists were being killed for the sake of the USSR, while the latter had sold them, dividing the world at Yalta, or when they claim that they were being equipped by the USSR and were serving its plans?

What is certain in all cases, they seek to disorient the working class and the other popular masses under capitalist oppression".
