Historical story

A... scientific escape room in Sarafion

This year's celebration of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Revolution of 1821 coincides with other important and memorable anniversaries. Like, let's say, with the 200 years of scientific cooperation between Greece and the United States.

To commemorate this very anniversary, the US Embassy in Athens financed and organized, in collaboration with the non-profit organization SciCo (Science Communication), the action "USA-Greece:200 years of innovation" (USA-Greece:200 Years of Innovation). And if you imagine speeches, screenings and the like as usual, think again.

"USA-Greece:200 years of innovation" is an interactive escape room, in which you can explore the shared scientific history of the two countries, while at the same time trying to "escape" using your knowledge. Do you have the key to unlock 200 years of common scientific progress? Can you solve the riddle of history's great scientific discoveries? Do you know the scientists who marked the last two centuries? Good luck!

In the escape room, hosted in the Serafion of the Municipality of Athens, visitors are invited to tour through four different rooms, each of which represents a specific period of modern history. By solving riddles and puzzles, visitors have the opportunity to learn about important scientific discoveries. The four rooms highlight innovations resulting from Greek-American cooperation over the past 200 years, as well as iconic personalities from various fields of science and technology.

This original and... educational action - which in the midst of a pandemic and "vaccination" reminds us of the importance of scientific research and development - is part of the wider series of events entitled "USA-Greece:Celebrating 200 Years of Friendship" of the American embassy.

Information: Until Friday, December 31, Serafio (19 Ehelidon &144 Piraeus). Monday to Friday 10:00-13:00 for schools, 17:00-20:00 for the public, weekends 12:00-18:00. Free entry with vaccination/disease certificate, or negative rapid.
