The Throne of Xerxes:The fort - lookout from where he watched the crash of his fleet

In ancient times the area of Perama was called Amfiali. On one of the peaks of Mount Aigaleo that are part of the Municipality of Perama, it is believed that there was the position from which the Persian emperor Xerxes watched the naval battle of Salamis (480 BC).

This peak is called the "Throne of Xerxes" by the residents of Perama. From there Xerxes saw 200 of his ships sink and thousands of his men drown in the waters of the Saronic. This was the beginning of the end of his campaign in Greece.
