Robert the Strong(? - 866)

Robert le Fort was a count of Tours from the Robertian family. He was appointed by Charles the Bald missus dominicus of the regions of Tours and Angers in 853. After a rebellion against Charles II in 855 he became duke of the region between the Seine and the Loire. From then on it was his responsibility to fight against the Bretons and the Normans and he was finally killed fighting the latter at the Battle of Brissarthe in 866. He is the father of Eudes and Robert I of France who were both kings of France. Through the latter, he is the great-grandfather of Hugues Capet and therefore the ancestor of the entire Capetian lineage.
