117. Heart of Gold, Iron Hand!

Sardar Patel was like Chanakya and Samudragupta

There are very few people in the world who make their hands of iron and heart of gold to serve the world. Sardar Patel was such a rare great man. He risked his life to serve the plague patients of Gujarat and, while serving the patients, himself got plagued by the plague and started living in a temple outside the village. He spent his earnings on his brothers and sacrificed the prime minister's chair for the will of Gandhiji. He could have become the Prime Minister if he wanted, but he gave up the Prime Minister's chair to allow the country's freedom chariot to move forward, just as Subhash Chandra Bose had given up the Congress President's chair to fulfill Gandhiji's wish. Sardar Patel's personal life was filled with simplicity and simplicity. He did not remarry after the death of his first wife. Even after facing poverty, he went to London and studied barristy. When prosperity started coming in life, he jumped into freedom struggle, renouncing his advocacy. Leaving the English dress, he adopted the country kurta and dhoti. He spent only Rs.12 on organizing the marriage of his son. His daughter Maniben lived with him like a shadow, but she also wore a thick white sari of simple khadi. The sacrificial life of Sardar Patel was a living proof of the tradition of Indian sages.

We salute this Indian sage with heart of gold and hands of iron.
